The picture is clear ...

Four things support the world: the learning of the wise, the justice of the great, the prayers of the good, and the valor of the brave

When you support someone,

It's because you believe in them,

And when you believe in them,

It's because you trust them,

And when you trust them,

It's because of their deeds,

That's why I trust a doctor,

And I trust a teacher,

And support one,

Who is both ...

And ... this song is for you everybody but especially for JD .. Have a happy Sunday all and get better from thas cold soon Dr Grumble .. clear tea with lots of lime juice and a tea spoon of honey will get you up in a day ... Natural and best! :-D

And ... Sing Edith ... sing ... Can anyone honsetly resist singing back that tune after the song is finished?! ... I bet you can't ... Edith, what Genius! ...

And did I tell you about my Irish friend? ... He bought a new computer yesterday, throw away the mouse .. and is using that cat instead! .. ;-)

Thank you, Sam. Dr Grumble has now recovered.

Dr Grumble trusts teachers too. Last week he was at a meeting sitting next to two teachers. When something came up about some problem in society Dr Grumble said, "I blame the teachers!" He says this quite often. This is Dr G's idea of a joke. The teachers give a wry smile but they let Dr G get away with it because they know that Dr G is being obliquely critical of those who always criticise professionals.

Behind Dr Grumble at the meeting was the headmaster of one of the top state primary schools in the land. Dr G has known him for 15 years. When Dr G first met him he was struck by the dilapidated car he drove. He was impressed that as headmaster he himself would clear up the vomit if a child was sick. He was impressed that if the school was looking a bit drab he would buy a pot of paint and get to work. Just as Dr G is a strong support of the NHS this headmaster is a strong supporter of state education. His financial rewards have been minimal. There is a strong vocational element to what he does.

I'm glad you are better Dr G :-)

With re to that head master with his dilapidated car and the drap looking school. Are we saying that that we shouln't endeavour to better either our personal or public conditions? Because I consider this a defeatest approach that would drive us down to third world standards. And .. my eldest son has just bought a decent-ish car, does this reduce his standing as a good compassionate doctor in your eyes?

If we are addressing the question of doctors' pay then the most junior doctors seem to be doing extremely badly at present with loss of free accommodation and loans to pay back. And we have now seen the evils of encouraging people to live on loans.

Grumble was just commenting on the observation that there are very many hard working professionals out there who get little in the way of financial rewards. These people are driven by something other than material gain. It is something to be admired but doing your duty doesn't pay the bills and these teachers won't be able to help their children through medical school in the same way as the bankers' offspring.

Sorry, Sam, if you are a banker!

I totally agree Dr G,it really is unfair and it doesn't only affect the F1s, but the F2s too since now most of the rotations are unbanded! Wales has now decided to restore the free accommodation to attract junior docs to their hospitals but the rest of the country has not followed suit! Stark discrimination since docs in the rest of the country need to eat and live somewhere too and for the hard work they spent their whole life doing to follow their dream of becoming doctors, I think this treatment is a disgrace! Did you know, now with the nurses latest pay rise, which was more percentage wise to that awareded to the juniors, the difference between an F1 who spent 6 years studying and a new graduate nurse with only three years study and probably a lot less than half the content, is around £800 per annum?! If this is not madness, please tell me what is! Because three years on, when both are at the same age, that same nurse will be earning near to £10 more than the F1! Maybe I should write again about this .. it is so unfair :-(

:-) hehe! No Dr G, I gave up the rat race in 1989 despite having a job that, in my eyes, was better than a banker and I did so because I decided that my priority was to raise my children to be doctors rather than follow a glamourous career. Soooo, not a banker I'm afraid but not 'solely' married to the house either. 'sadly' I am not the type ;-)
